The mayor of Rincón de la Victoria has announced plans to put out to tender, before the end of this month, the project to construct a new park in Torre de Benagalbón and, surprising everyone, by announcing it will be finished by the end of the year.
La Comarca Park, costing €1.7 million, is inspired by the works of J. R. R. Tolkien and is designed to fulfill an election promise to provide Rincón de la Victoria with a suburban park in the style of La Paloma in Benalmádena and La Bateria in Torremolinos.
The park will have a central lake fed by two streams, picnic areas, recreation areas, cafe, shop auditorium and many other special features. And it will all be themed based upon the universe of Tolkien, even containing little hobbit houses.
It is the speed at which the park is to be constructed that has apparently surprised most people, with the park touted to be inaugurated before the end of the year.
The mayor has denied that this is an electioneering announcement and project, although the elections are only a couple of months away of course.
