An earthquake measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale with its epicentre in Ossa de Montiel, Albacete, shook the centre of Spain on Monday afternoon.
The tremor was felt for several seconds in Castilla-La Mancha, Madrid, Comunidad Valenciana and Murcia regions, but there are no reports of any injuries or significant material damage. Many people reported that everything in their homes shook and rattled as the quake suddenly hit.
The quake occurred at 17:16 on Monday and was followed by aftershocks measuring 2.5 and 3.1 on the Richter scale. It is the largest earthquake recorded in Spain since 2012. The quake occurred at a depth of 10 kilometres, considered ‘very shallow’ by the National Geographic Institute.
