According to the Council, the three agreements signed with the Sisters of the Good Samaritan Residential Centre are beginning to bear fruit with a total of 10 applications received so far.
The Council has allocated €52,000 to assist elderly residents with limited financial resources to obtain residential care or, in some cases, short-term stays as a means of giving respite to family carers.
As of February 25th 2015, ten applications have apparently been received, nine for residential care and one for respite.
The municipal contribution to the care costs is €600 per month for residential care and a somewhat lower, unspecified amount for respite.
