Vélez-Málaga Council is hoping to make yet another, desperate attempt to launch a bicycle service in the municipality, the last attempt having been in 2011.
In the latest attempt, the Council wants the company running the service also to be responsible for maintenance and repair. Three previous attempts to achieve this have failed.
The bicycle service originally began in April 2011 after bicycles were donated by the the Andalucian Energy Agency and the service involved an investment of €150,000. However, without adequate provision for maintenance and repair, the service was only in operation until June 2011, a mere three months.
A bit like the ill-fated Tranvia tram system, the project was obviously not very well thought out before being put into operation.
