Criminal offences committed in Nerja – felonies and misdemeanors – decreased by 11.4% in 2014 when compared to the previous year, according to figures published by the municipal authority.
Both the number of crimes and the crime rate decreased in 2014, by 7.31% and 1.26% respectively. The crime detection rate increased from 44.77% to 46.70% and 142 people were detained in 2014 compared to 152 in 2013.
Figures for recorded crime were down in virtually all areas: Property crimes were down by 13.41%, thefts down by 31.03%, vehicle thefts down by 33.33% and robbery with violence down by 77.77%.
A total of 55 women were granted protection orders – 35 Spanish, 12 European, 4 Moroccan and 2 South American. Complaints of abuse within the family were down by 19.51% at 33 incidents.
The Guardia Civil conducted 16 operations relating to property, theft, car theft, burglary and crimes against public health, all ending in the arrest of the alleged perpetrators and the partial or total recovery of stolen items.
