Málaga Provincial Council has announced an investment of €437,000 to allow for the partial reopening of a short stretch of the Paseo de los Carabineros and to construct a path between La Caletilla and El Salon beaches.
This being carried out as part of the Coastal Route project to link Nerja with Manilva through paths, tracks, promenades and walkways. The route is currently 75% passable and Málaga Council is working on the remaining 25%. And that includes Nerja.
The Paseo de los Carabineros will be a 100 metre section starting from Calahonda beach, hence the need to expropriate El Papagayo restaurant, and €257,000 is being set aside for its construction.
The second walkway, connecting La Caletilla and El Salon beaches, will reportedly be 150 metres in length and is set to cost €180,000.
Both projects are currently with the Department of Coasts and Department of Environment, having already been approved by the Nerja Council and having been certified as compatible with the current PGOU – General Plan.
The original Paseo de los Carabineros ran from Calahonda to Burriana beach, but was closed many years ago following a rockslide. Any new walkway can apparently only be partial and must be built away from the cliff face.
