The Guardia Civil have arrested fifteen people in Málaga and Granada as the alleged members of an organisation that swindled 130 people by means of fraudulent gas revisions.
The detainees are accused of involvement in organised crime, fraud, threats, coercion, extortion and various other offences, with the value of their fraud thought to be around €600,000.
The gang would operate in tow ways, either phoning people to say that a ‘technician’ would be calling to carry out a gas installation inspection or by ‘cold calling’, assessing the vulnerability of the potential victim and then impersonating members of the official gas distributor.
Four companies were raided during the operation and various documentation was seized. A further six companies, acting as cover for the other four, were identified but rapidly disappeared.
