Tomorrow, three months later than planned, a third ITV (MOT) inspection centre will open in Málaga, the idea being to try and alleviate the current three-week waiting time currently being experienced by many motorists.
The centre, on the Guadalhorce industrial estate, is a temporary solution and will continue until a new centre has been built on calle Brasilia in Mijas. The bidding process for this new facility closes on April 6th 2015, which means that the new site is unlikely to be operational until the spring of 2017.
To be built at a cost of €4.2 million, the Mijas facility will have eight inspection lines (four for light vehicles, two universal and two for mopeds) and two areas for the inspection of taxis. The estimated capacity is around 80,000 inspections per year and it is also expected to create 25 direct jobs.
Meanwhile, the temporary facility on the Guadalhorce industrial estate (Calle Carlo Coldoni 17), to be known as Guadalhorce Los Prados, will have four lanes for light vehicles, two lanes for motorcycles and two areas for taxis.
It will be open Monday to Friday from 06:45 to 20:45 and on Saturdays from 07:45 to 12:45. Appointments can be made via 902702727 or www.itvcita.com.
