The famous Caminito del Rey trail in El Chorro, near Alora, Malaga, deemed one of the most dangerous trails in the world, will again become one of the most amazing experiences after re-opening on the 29th March. Nearly three million euros had to be invested in the restoration of the road and there are already more than 30,000 people on the waiting list, ready to walk it.
Entry will be free for the first three months, but later on will cost 6 euros. The trail had been closed for the last 15 years due to safety reasons: five people died between 1999 and 2000. This old trail, which was built between 1901 and 1905 to join two waterfalls, was in very poor condition. Today, after some amazing restoration work, it can be used safely. The trail spans a stretch of 3 kilometers, divided between 1.5 kilometers of elevated walkways 100 meters above the river and another 1.5 kilometers of trail or forest trail. One of its most spectacular views can be seen in the aerial trail, anchored at 100 meters above the Guadalhorce River. Some of the walls there reach a height of 700 meters above river level.
