It has been announced that Barcelona legend Xavier “Xavi” Hernandez will be playing his football in Qatar next season. News broke on Saturday that Al-Sadd Sports Club based in Doha and who play in the Qatar Stars League had won the race to his prized signature. The 35 year old midfielder who has amassed a record breaking 751 appearances and won 25 trophies with ‘Barca’ will officially join Al-Sadd on 1st July 2015. This brings the curtains down on a distinguished playing association with the club that began when Xavi made his first junior appearance as an 11 year old for the famous Barcelona youth academy at La Masia.
Xavi was pictured with Al-Sadd’s athletic director Muhammed Ghoulam in an instagram photo posted by their team manager Abdullah Al-Berik.
While football fans in Qatar will eagerly be looking forward to watching Xavi next season, it could be said that supporters of the Catalan giants will be al-sadd!!
