One of the biggest and most popular fairs held in Spain each year is the ‘Feria de Abril de Sevilla’ (Sevilla April Fair), the fair officially begins at midnight on Monday 20th April and finishes on Sunday 26th April. The origin of the feria goes back to 1847 when it was inaugurated as a livestock fair organised by two local councillors and agreed to by Queen Isabel II.
The Sevilla Feria begins at midday each day with a parade of carriages and horses being ridden to the bullring alongside the Gaudalquivir river. The river bank itself is completely taken over by rows of more than 1000 casetas (marquee tents) which host many private parties (and some public) filled with traditional dance, food and drink until the early hours – 6am to 7am is not unusual.
So if this makes appeal to you, get your hotel room booked quickly as the city will be sold out!
