Taxis in Nerja have now been equipped with a taximeter even though the majority of the local taxi owners have fought against the act. The regional government has obliged taxis throughout Andalusia to taximeter the journeys that previously had a set price.
This means that most journeys have gone down slightly in price, if traffic flows freely. But if there is heavy traffic, which happens a lot in the summer, fares can go up quickly.
The main reason that most taxi owners fought against this was due to the expense they have incurred in order to implement the meter in the vehicle. This has been over €1000 plus other expenses related to MOT costs.
