Nerja will host the third regional fair of the year. Sabor de Málaga is the promotional food products’ brand promoted by the Provincial Council of Málaga. After having been held in San Pedro Alcántara, the fair will arrive in Nerja, to the Plaza de España to attract audiences from the western Costa del Sol and tourists. The fair will be held from the 8th to the 10th of May.
A total of 48 producers from all regions of the province of Málaga will open their pantries to publicize their wide range of products and the latest developments in their sector. The news were released by Ana Mata, vice president of the town council, who was accompanied by Leonor García-Agua, deputy of Economic and Rural Development and the Councilor for Trade of the town of Nerja, Nieves Atencio.
This type of trade fair, which were launched in 2013, allows producers attached to the brand to publicize their products and innovations through parallel activities and to sell a selection of typical foods from all regions, such as honey, oil, olives, cheeses, vegetables, wines, craft beer, Christmas sweets, sausages, bread, potatoes, meats and nuts, among others.
Mata recalled that it is the second time that the “Sabor de Málaga” fair is being held in the region of the Axarquia. The first time in 2014, the town of Rincón de la Victoria was chosen to host the celebration. She also pointed out that the growth experienced by the local businesses due to the brand “many of them being small family businesses that now are taking a new dimension”. She also said that during 2014, 220 of the small and medium size businesses with the “Sabor a Málaga” brand, which have been part of the trade fairs, earned more than one million euros.
Meanwhile, Ms. Atencia announced that the development of the fair coincides with two other important events held in the town: Noche en Blanco and Día de Europa. There are scheduled cultural activities “so that the success of the fair will be insured”.
“Sabor a Málaga” will once again provide a space that will offer more than fifteen different activities, especially outreach activities. Workshops for all ages take on an important role in their program.
García-Agua has said that there will be representative producers from all regions. “We will carry a bit of each to Nerja”, she said. She also reviewed the paralleled activities that make up the institutional program. They will start on Friday, May 8th at 1:00 PM when Citrima Sat (Citrus Málaga) offers a children’s workshop entitled “Ecological Citrus from the Gualdalhoce Valley”, and it will continue with the sampling of their products. The deputy also announced that a toy library will be opened to hold the activities aimed at children.
