For those interested in knowing what the bathing water is like at beaches in Nerja, which includes most of us, take a look at this snapshot of the latest assessment from the European Environment Agency. As you can see, the main beaches of Burriana, Torrecilla and El Playazo are all displayed showing that they are described as having “Excellent water quality”, compliant with their guide values. And that is without the new super dooper water treatment plant in action! Roll on next summer when Nerja may well have the best water quality in Spain.

how can you have ‘sanitary items’ floating on the surface near the beach and get an ‘excellent’ score?

How then do they explain the band of floating excrement in the summer that takes 4 hours at least to move from the yellow buoys to the shore?

The latest assessment it is clearly not as the Blue Flag award has now been removed from Nerja. I do not know who prints or publishes this material but if this article is wrong then how many others are ?
