At the weekend, six local members of the Nerja Caves Speleology Club beat their own depth record by descending to 600 metres in the Sima Gesm, the deepest cave in Andalucia and the third deepest in the world.
Sima Gesm has a depth of -1,098 metres and was discovered in 1970. The previous club record was -500 metres.
Their next expedition will see them attempt to descend to -1,098 metres.
