Nerja is set to have, amongst other things, four free WiFi zones as part of the project Smart City Costa del Sol.
The project, 80% financed through European funds, is being carried out in thirteen municipalities along the Costa del Sol.
In addition to the free WiFi zones, there will be a SMART Tourist Office, SMART parking, 10 SMART taxis and the installation of 300 low consumption lights.
The financing of the project is on the basis of 80% being provided by European funds and 20%, in two instalments, by the municipality. The agreement was signed in April by the previous administration.
However, it is reported that up until the end of July, the requisite payment of €35,000 (first instalment) had not been paid as it had not been budgeted. The agreement stipulates that if any municipality defaults, the whole project collapses.
