The authorities in Nerja and Frigiliana have been meeting to discuss formulating a Strategic Security Plan to combat thefts from farms in both municipalities, something farmers have been requesting for many years.
Both Councils will work together to reduce the number of thefts from farms, which not only result in a loss of produce but also, in many cases, damage to property.
The farmers have been complaining for years about thefts, particularly at harvest time, and have been demanding more security measures in rural areas.
The initiative, put forward by the Mayor of Frigiliana, has been discussed by representatives of both Councils along with the Guardia Civil and Local Police in each municipality.
Steven Mulrooney says:
The Authorities should also address the connected problem of farm owners ( particularly those who do not live on the site) leaving dogs, presumably as protection against theives, to roam or locked in cabins. Not only is this cruel to the animals but the dog barking is incessant and disturbing for miles around, particularly at night.
