The first deputy mayor at the centre of the current storm in a teacup in Nerja, José García Beltrán, has reportedly used his Facebook page to announce that he will be resigning his post, although he does not state whether or not he will continue as a councillor.
José García Beltrán was responsible for the rupture of the political pact which brought the PSOE/IU to power in Nerja through statements, once again via Facebook, which were considered ‘abusive’ and ‘insulting’ by the political party Ciudadanos and others.
Ciudadanos reportedly used the social media WhatsApp to inform the mayor, Rosa Arrabal, of their decision.
IU reportedly asked José García Beltrán to apologise for his remarks relating to Ciudadanos and this appears to have prompted him to say that he will be resigning from the government team and will present his resignation to the mayor on Monday morning.
Local IU spokesman Andrés Jiménez was reported as being ‘surprised’ by the reaction of the deputy mayor, adding that he was not criticising his political management, just asking him to reconsider his words.
The secretary of the PSOE, PSOE, José Antonio Aguilar, has indicated he wants to sit down with José García Beltrán and ask him to reconsider.
What does seem to be clear is the tendency nowadays for people in all walks of life to make statements, respond or otherwise communicate through the likes of Twitter, Facebook, WhatsApp et al rather than meeting face to face.
