Savings totalling €29,385 were made during the summer with respect to overtime payments to Local Police officers, according to the Council.
Payments this year were €29,385 less than during the corresponding period in 2014 and, again according to the Council, this was achieved without affecting the service offered by the police.
During the period June to September, the Council paid out €50,092.30 compared to €79,477.61 in 2014, representing significant savings for the municipal coffers. It is still, however, a lot of overtime, particularly for a small town boasting a very low crime rate.
