The political groups supporting the current tripartite government in Nerja, PSOE, IU and EVA-Podemos, have denounced what they allege are serious deficiencies in the construction of the sewage treatment plant in Fuente del Baden.
Work finally began on the plant in January 2014 after decades of administrative and political difficulties, the project being carried out by the Ministry of Environment. At the time, many questioned how a project initially estimated to cost between €40 million and €80 million to implement could be put out to tender for a mere €23 million.
The political groups now appear to be of the same opinion. It is also alleged that technicians have discovered enormous discrepancies in infrastructure, the use of low-quality materials, a reduction in the diameter of piping, failure to install the pipes deep enough and more.
Nerja has waited long enough, far too long in fact, for a sewage treatment plant, so it is to be hoped that the allegations are unfounded, or at least exaggerated, and that party-political, electoral and local interests are not, once again, leading up to a ‘botched job’.
