Fear that Nerja could lose around 1600 inhabitants in 2016!

All Foreigners registered on Nerja Town Hall Padron population list (register of inhabitants) must re-register every 2 years. After this time, if an individual has not renewed their registration they will be removed from the register.

According to the Ayuntamiento, dependant on the number of persons registered, the town could be allocated more budget for doctors, health centres, police, schools, firemen, infrastructure and other services benefiting everyone in the long run. Each year the Town Hall receives approximately €150 per person that is registered on the Padron from the central and local government. The government requires that all foreigners renew their registration every 2 years giving confirmation that they are still residents of the town. Not renewing ones inscription will mean that they will no longer appear on the population list, which is detrimental to the town’s entitlement to receive grants and will affect a foreigner’s benefits and rights.

Foreigners have until March 31st to confirm their registration. The Ayuntamiento are concerned that Nerja could lose around 1600 inhabitants if these reminders are not acted upon promptly. It is hoped that the the foreign residents in Nerja re-register well before the deadline.

The Town Hall advise that the best way to check if you have to renew your registration is by sending an email to the Town Hall Foreigners Department : [email protected] stating your name and NIE number. It is also possible to visit the Foreigners Department which is located on the ground floor or the Main Reception which is also located on the ground floor of the Town Hall. The Ayuntamiento request that you take with you a photocopy of any kind of identification; Preferably the NIE certificate, passport, identity card, driving licence, medical card, etc.

The opening hours of the Town Hall are:
Foreigners Department: Monday & Thursday from 10:00 to 13:30
Main Reception: Monday to Friday from 08:00 to 14:00
