The concert offers a journey through musical themes arising from the merging of two of the 20th century’s great cultural achievements: Jazz and Cinema. It is not surprising that the first film to include sound, circa 1927, was The Jazz Singer. Since then, this relationship has resulted in a wealth of unforgettable works, enthralling audiences throughout the years. This concert will delight music and cinema lovers alike.
Themes will include: Somewhere Over the Rainbow from the 1939 musical The Wizard of Oz; Someday My Prince Will Come, for the Walt Disney 1937 film Snow White; Nature Boy (1947),which is part of the soundtrack of the 2001 film Moulin Rouge; Wild Heart (1993); The Talented Mr. Ripley (1999); Miss Celie’s Blues from The Colour Purple (1985); Manha de Carnaval (1959) of the Brazilian film Black Orpheus.
The concert will also pay a special homage to the best jazz voices and musicians of all time, including themes by
Ella Fitzgerald, Duke Ellington, Joe Pass and Irving Berlin.
