The meteorological phenomenon affected Avenida de Tivoli in Arroyo de la Miel and Avenida de la Libertad damaging several trees and caused numerous material damage and making flooding worse.
Benalmádena on the Costa del Sol, approximately 60 minutes east of Nerja, was one of the areas most affected by the huge rainfall and the wind. The emergency services received several calls for multiple incidents during the evening and part of today.
Two operative units of the Firemen, in collaboration with the volunteers’ Civil defence group, continue to work removing fallen trees, aiming to open access to roads and paths as soon as possible. The tornado also caused damage to houses, but fortunately without causing any injuries. Benalmádena town hall assure that the weather warning has now decreased to orange and yellow alerts from the red alert was announced from midnight until early hours of the morning.
The mayor, Victor Navas, has promoted a message of calm across social networks and has made sure that the sanitation “is working” and that the creeks “are draining off appropriately”. The first town councillor has been grateful for the effort of the Firemen, Civil defence, and Local Police officers, Operative Services and of the municipal companies of refuse and maintenance “for their assistance in such difficult moments”.
