The president of the council of Malaga, Elías Bendodo, has declared today in the Subdelegation of the Government in Malaga, that the damages caused by the storm on the motorways of the provincial network amount to 4,5 million euros.
Bendodo has reported in the press conference along with the subdelegate of the Government in Malaga, Miguel Briones, and the delegate of Agriculture of La Junta, Javier Salas, that of those four million, one million corresponds to the Serranía la Ronda and three to the damages on the routes to the region of the Guadalhorce.
The president of the Council has referred to the storm as “the biggest of previous years”, has extolled the “teamwork” between the different bodies and institutions and has announced that the provincial entity will create an Office of Coordination and Evaluation of Damages to activate the helps lines.
The highways of access to Teba (Malaga), MA-6403 and Genalguacil (Malaga), MA-8302, are still cut, Bendodo has advanced, although they hope to be able to recover the normality in the next few hours, and during the storm performances have been realized in twelve highways.
Different private entities have expressed to Bendodo their interest to support the affected families with the Council managing this assistance. The president of the Delegation, has highlighted that the efforts are for the “responsibility and fortitude of the of Malaga population”.
The subdelegate of the Government in Malaga, Miguel Briones, has affirmed that there have been “many hours of difficult work, but that the result is positive”. He also stated that there have been 1’199 incidents registered in the province, and in 500 cases, 200 men are still assisting from the Civil Guard and National police. Briones has indicated that 76 people were evacuated fom the surrounding areas of Malaga, including Cártama and Álora. In Marbella, up to ten families-27 people – were rescued, and the amount of municipalities affected by the storm has now reached twenty.
Alert level two of the eEmergency Plan was in place, although now it has been already deactivated.
It is said that Alert level three, would have required military intervention.
The subdelegate of the Government in Malaga has stated that, although “it is not a moment to “blame”, it is necessary to “reflect” and referred to the river bed’s cleanliness, as possibly one of the causing factors of flooding, and he has claimed how essential it is to clean it and not drop litter.
In answer, the delegate of Agriculture of La Junta of Andalusia in Malaga, Javier Salas, has outlined that although it is possible and it is necessary to clean some streams, they must also study the location and orientation of some highways that, as he has thought, work like “dikes”.
All involved have agreed to the “importance” to carry out a wider evaluation of damages, which will be clear in the next few days: and stated “We hope that everything should return to the absolute normality as soon as possible”.
