Nerja Town Council has renovated all the lifeguard towers that were old and in poor condition in order to provide safer working conditions for the lifeguards.
10 have been installed, one each on Maro, Carabeo, Calahonda, El Salón, El Chucho and Torrecilla Beaches and 2 each on Burriana and El Playazo beaches.
Other works carried out in the area include renewal of flags and installation of new signs indicating where dogs are not allowed and the proper use of showers. It has been 7 years since these posters were last replaced, although they are yet to be replaced at Maro beach.
Also, a new piece of machinery has been acquired which is used to smooth out the beaches, thus ensuring they are kept in the best possible condition.
Additional work includes the replacement of existing bins with larger ones, each with the capacity to hold two 120 litre buckets, thus making rubbish less visible for residents and visitors alike.
The Council has been working for several months to bring the beaches to the best state as possible, and their current condition is testament to the hard work of the beach team who day in day out ensure safety on the coast.
Residents and traders have been asked by Nerja Town Council to use the bins for cardboard, glass and general waste, to tie bags up properly and to remove waste at the specified times.
