In total, almost 90 children between the ages of 4 and 14 took part, enjoying this great festival of the sand which has not been celebrated on the beaches of Nerja in more than 40 years.
The contest was judged by two very special locally known artists: Francisco Martín, sculptor and painter, and Luis Santiago, draftsman, along with Cristina Fernández, Councillor of the beaches.
All the participants were given t-shirts, ice creams, buckets and beach gadgets.
Two awards were set by category, the first being Category A: 4 to 8 years. The winners of first prize were Paula Corra Muñoz, Miriam Gómez Rodríguez and Jorge Gómez Rodríguez. The second prize went to Juan González Silversmith and Medhi González.
Category B: 9 to 14 years. The first prize went to the team comprised of José Emilio Chaves Nievas, Maria Alvarez Nievas and Francisco Alvarez Nievas. The second prize was awarded to Sergio Rodríguez Jarén, Gonzalo and Álvaro Iglesia Martín.
Two special awards were given to Iván and Irena Gallego Jaro and Conn Kehoe and Ciaran Kehoe, who each received whales and inflatable dolphins.
All the participants demonstrated an exceptional spirit of creativity, solidarity and hard work in their creations.
The weather in Nerja is expected to be nice and sunny for the next few weeks encouraging more beach activities on Burriana and in other local areas.
