After four years of below average rainfall, reservoirs in Málaga province are at dangerously low levels and the drought risk is so serious that the President of the Junta de Andalucía, Susana Díaz, has informed the Andalusian Parliament this week that a decree is being drawn up to be enacted if the situation does not improve.
She also called for a number of outstanding projects to be completed which would alleviate the situation, such as the pipeline between the Costa del Sol, Guadalhorce and La Axarquía which could transport water from the wetter western region to the drier eastern region as and when necessary.
At a meeting on Thursday the Junta promised to improve the pipe network on the Costa del Sol so that more water can be transported from La Concepción Reservoir.
