The 28-year-old officer who only transferred to Nerja six months ago was injured when a car driven by 77-year-old retired businessman Expedito Cabra collided with another vehicle while attempting to navigate the roundabout.
The cause of the accident was put down to the elderly driver temporarily passing out causing his car to collide with another vehicle that then hit the patrolman.
The Guardia Civil officer was transported to Hospital de la Axarquía where he is receiving treatment for a fractured leg and hip.
