Now following numerous complaints from residents and holidaymakers the government has ordered the Spanish Airports Authority, AENA to regulate the price of water in all airport shops and vending machines.
Some airport shops were selling a half litre bottles of water for 3.50€ which is more than ten times the price you would normally pay in the supermarket.
The new rules state that airport shops must now charge 1.00€ for a small 33ml bottles of water and 1.00€ for a half litre of water purchased from a vending machine.
Currently, Mallorca, Bilbao, Tenerife Sur, Santiago, Vigo and Girona-Costa Brava have adopted the new rules with Madrid-Barajas, Alicante-Elche, Valencia, Barcelona-El Prat and Malaga-Costa del Sol all in the process of accepting the new prices.
