Nerja mayor Rosa Arrabal, Councilor for the Environment, Jorge Bravo and Councilor for the Beaches Cristina Fernández met with municipal engineers and members of the company awarded the task of carrying out an environmental impact report concerning the placing of an artificial reef off Nerja’s coast.
Encouraged by the success of the Museo Atlántico in Lanzarote and the Underwater Museum in Cancún, the study is to assess not only the environmental impact a sub-aquatic museum would have on marine life but also public access and parking facilities.
The study is expected to take 12 weeks and is designed to help the town council decide if an underwater museum off the coast of Nerja could prove to be a major tourist attraction for the town.
