The work can now commence after having been approved in the 2018 town budget that was finalized on May 11th.
Local citizens groups have previously expressed concerns that the eyesore will not be removed before the start of the busy summer holiday season.
Nerja town hall spokeswoman, María del Carmen López, has called the action urgent saying: “It should be done before the summer and it would be a serious mistake for the local government to leave this action for later, since the image of abandonment from the Balcón de Europa has a very negative effect for the tourist.”
Demolition work is expected to take two weeks and will cause as little inconvenience as possible.
