The thermometer at the Meteorological Centre of Aemet in Malaga recorded the hottest temperature in Spain on Friday with the mercury topping 38.8 degrees centigrade (101.8°F).
The official high temperature for statistical reasons is taken at the airport where they recorded a maximum of 37.9 degrees.
It may not have felt as hot as it was, however, thanks to a humidity level of 16% which is much lower than the 70% that Malaga and the coast are used to.
This was the second heat wave of the summer prompting the Meteorological Centre to issue a yellow warning between midday and ten o’clock from Friday until Sunday.
So far this month Malaga and the surrounding area has seen an average high temperature of 32.8 degrees Celsius and while that might seem quite high, however it is in fact, milder than recent summers due to the absence of large heatwaves.
The forecast for the upcoming weekend in Nerja is glorious sunshine with a daily high temperature of 29°.
