On Monday, September 24th the town of Nerja is holding skin cancer awareness class in the Plaza de la Ermita between 10:00 and 13: 00.
Doctors will be on hand to explain what skin cancer is and how it can be treated, as well as offer advice on good habits for skin exposure to the sun.
Anyone who has a suspicious looking mole or lesion is asked to come along and have it checked by a medical professional.
Due to the good results from last year’s screening which detected 8 malignant cases and 31 suspected cases that could be treated in time, the check-ups are being repeated again in 21 municipalities of Malaga.
People need to heed advice when it comes to the sun and skin care and not think it is just relevant during the summer but year round.
According to data from the AECC Cancer Observatory, the incidence of skin melanoma last year in Spain was 5,186 cases, 2,810 in women and 2,376 in men. Of these, 172 were in the province of Malaga.
From a Health perspective, it is encouraged to attend the event so that any doubts and suspicions can be resolved.
