Move over Marbella as Malaga’s about to take over! Well, maybe not when it comes to certain attractions that the famous Costa del Sol bling resort is known for. However, having said that slowly but surely we are seeing super-yacht owners decide to moor their multi-million dollar craft in the Port of Malaga rather than Puerto Banus.
With all the attractions Malaga’s “Pier One” has to offer plus the proximity of Malaga airport and in particular the terminal that handles private jets, Malaga Port is now becoming the home for super-yachts used to sailing between the Caribbean and Mediterranean Seas.
The latest arrival at the Port of Malaga is a sleek 55-metre long vessel that belongs to American scientist and businessman Jonathan Rothberg.
Named the “Gene Machine” after a scientific discovery that allowed the 56-year-old to build a device capable of high-speed DNA sequencing, the Dutch built yacht can sail the world’s oceans at speeds reaching speeds of up to 15.5 knots.
Costing $40 million (about 35.6 million euros) the interior of “Gene Machine” was designed by Swiss architectural firm Enzo Enea and can accommodate 24 guests in luxury surroundings.
If you would like to grab a glimpse of the yacht in person why not plan a day out at Malaga’s glitzy shopping area by the sea and maybe grab a bite to eat at the recently opened Hard Rock Café.
