The Government of Andalucia has awarded the town of Nerja a grant through the Ministry of Tourism to help spruce up its beaches.
The grant in the amount of 352,321.28 euros will be used to purchase beach cleaning equipment and machinery to improve the cleanliness and safety of Nerja’s beaches.
Nerja was the only town on eastern Costa del Sol to receive money from the provincial government to help look after its beaches.
To help improve safety, lifeguards will receive a motorboat and a rescue craft. As for beach cleanliness, the town will purchase two tractors. Beach accessibility will be improved as will beach showers and anything else relating to beach hygiene.
While thanking the municipal workers for securing the grant councilman in charge of the town’s beaches, Francisco Arce said that “all the equipment will be operational in the next summer season for the enjoyment of Nerjeños and our visitors.”
When Mayor of Nerja, José Alberto Armijo was asked about the grant he said: “This is a sign of the strong commitment the Government of Andalusia has in Nerja, since this investment will considerably improve the services of our beaches and the tourist image of the town.”
Overall, Nerja is still a firm favourite when it comes to being a location unspoiled by mass tourism, along with an excellent all year round climate.

Let us hope the Burriana toilets are made clean and usable. They are used by the merenderos as theirs, and should therefore pass health and hygene laws.At the moment they dont. They are a disgrace.
