The Councillor for the Environment, Javier Rodriguez, has reported that work has begun on cleaning and clearing the riverbed of the Chillar River, between the bridge of the N-340 and the Puente Viejo.
Rodriguez has explained that the cleaning and clearing work is being carried out by a specialised company, which will clean up the weeds and waste accumulated in this section of the river, which is approximately 250 metres long.
“The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Sustainable Development of the Junta de Andalucía, which stipulates that these actions should preferably not be carried out between the months of March and June, as this is the nesting period of some species. Last Monday the work of cleaning and clearing the river Chillar began and will continue throughout this week,” said the councillor.
Prior to the start of the cleaning and clearing work, the cleaning company has checked the environment to ensure that there were no protected species in the area, as well as checking that no animals are found in the riverbed while the cleaning is taking place.
