Burriana and Torrecilla beaches have just been awarded the coveted Blue Flag distinction by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE). Nerja’s Mayor, José Alberto Armijo said “today is an important day for Nerja as a tourist destination. We have regained the Blue Flag which certifies the quality of the bathing water and the services offered by our beaches, which is a recognition of our municipality as a tourist destination of national and international reference. This is also an important step in the consolidation of our sun and beach offer. It is a stimulus for the challenge of continuing to increase the number of Blue Flags on our coastline”.
The “plugging in” of Nerja’s shiny new Waste Water Treatment Plant last year, has been the key factor in regaining the Blue Flag after a period of 7 years without it. Nerja’s waters are now crystal clear.
