A proposed strike by street cleaners and refuse collectors in Vélez-Málaga has been postponed until after the summer.
Proposed industrial action, namely an indefinite strike due to start in July, has been postponed until after the summer following a meeting between Trades Unions, the local Council and representatives of businesses in the area.
Talks regarding a new collective pay agreement have been ongoing for some time and there have been various threats of strike action along the way.
One issue which has come in for some criticism by the Council is the situation whereby jobs can be passed from father to son if the father retires and renounces a certain portion of his pension. The Unions are defending this particular article in the current agreement.
It would seem that, after almost four months of negotiations, agreement has been reached on only about 20% of items on the agenda.
