When officials finally got to see the man listed as Tokyo’s oldest living male, aged 111 years, as part of their updating of a list of centenarians ahead of Respect for the Elderly Day in September, they found Sogen Kato neatly tucked up in bed. Unfortunately, Kato has been dead for 30 years.

The UK grocery chain Budgens has been criticised by animal rights groups after one independent store in Crouch End, London, has started selling grey squirrel meat.
