Rafael Nadal won his seventh Italian Open title, beating Roger Federer 6-1 6-3 in the final at Rome’s Foro Italico. Nadal, the world number five, has now won six of his eight tournaments since returning in February from a seven-month break due to injury. He was runner-up in the other two tournaments.

Rafael Nadal beat Switzerland’s Stanislas Wawrinka 6-2 6-4 to win the Madrid Open for the third time. Nadal went through the match without dropping serve to win his fifth title of the year since returning from a long lay-off because of a knee injury.

Two goals from Soldado and one each from Guardado and Valdez gave Valencia comfortable victory over Rayo Vallecano on Sunday.
