Málaga banned from European competition
Malaga have been banned from European competition for at least one season because of unpaid bills. The suspension will not affect Málaga’s current Champions League campaign but covers any time in the next four seasons should they again qualify for Europe.
Málaga draw FC Porto
In the Champions League, Málaga have drawn FC Porto, Real Madrid get Manchester United and Barcelona have to contend with AC Milan.
Eibar 1-1 Málaga
Second Division B minnows Eibar, who have already knocked out Athletic Bilbao in the Copa del Rey, put on another great performance against Málaga last night in their fifth round first leg tie. An injury time strike from Onyewu levelled the score at 1-1 after Eibar had taken the lead through Añibarro.
Barcelona 4-1 Atlético Madrid
Barcelona are now nine points clear at the top of La Liga after beating second placed Atlético Madrid 4-1 on Sunday. Messi bagged a brace with Correia and Busquets scoring one each in a dominant performance by the Catalans. Falcao was once again on the scoresheet for Atlético.
Sevilla 0-2 Málaga
Two second half goals from Demichelis and Eliseu, the latter from the penalty spot, gave the Blue and Whites a 0-2 victory over fierce local rivals Sevilla. Fazio, who brought down Joaquin inside the area to concede the penalty, was given his marching orders. Málaga tighten their grip on the all important fourth place in La Liga.
Copa del Rey fifth round first leg
In the Copa del Rey fifth round first leg matches, Messi grabbed two goals as Barcelona overcame Córdoba 0-2. Sevilla look fairly comfortable after thrashing Mallorca 0-5 with goals from Negredo (2), Medel, Botía and Luna.
New records for Lionel Messi
Lionel Messi set a new record on Sunday as he scored both goals in Barcelona’s 1-2 win over Betis. The first goal equalled Gerd Muller’s 1972 record of 85 goals in a calendar year for club and country, the second set the new record.
Valladolid 2-3 Real Madrid
Real Madrid struggled to a 2-3 victory over Valladolid on Saturday night, twice having to come from behind. Manucho put the home side ahead after just seven minutes, but five minutes later Benzema scored an equaliser. It was Manucho who ponce again restored Valladolid’s lead before a brace from Ozil bagged the three points for Madrid.

Joaquín and Saviola in the first half and Camacho and Santa Cruz after the break gave Málaga a comfortable 4-0 win over Granada and they move back, at least temporarily, into fourth place in La Liga.
