The Mayor of Torrox, Francisco Muñoz (PSOE), has been holding talks with representatives of the Ministry of Justice and Interior to discuss matters relating to the municipal courts, located in Palacio de la Hoya.
Torrox Council to reduce IBI rate for 2013
Torrox Council is reducing IBI (Rates) for 2013 by 10% from 0.77% to 0.7%, a measure aimed at helping families in the municipality. This will mean reduced revenues for the municipal coffers of around €600,000.
Government pushes through municipal budget
The minority PSOE government has managed to push through the municipal budget for this year with the mayor, Francisco Muñoz, exercising his casting vote after the vote was tied at eight-eight. The PSOE (6 members) voted in favour as did the PIU (2 members). The PSA member abstained and both the PP (5 members) and IU (3 members) voted against.
Licences for street trading to be put out to tender
The Association of Street Vendors in Málaga (AVAM) is up in arms against the decision by Torrox Council to put all the licences for the three municipal markets, around 150 places, out to tender.
Proposed change to tax for industrial waste
The PSOE government in Torrox is proposing an amendment to the municipal ordinance relating to the tax rate for industrial waste, apparently to avoid some of the ‘incidents’ that have occurred in recent years. The proposal is a compromise reached between the Council and the business community.
Torrox rain damage put at €648,624.65
Torrox Council has estimated the damage caused by the rains on September 28th at €648,624.65, most of this amount relating to rural roads. As far as municipal facilities are concerned, the indoor swimming pool suffered the most damage with mud getting into the pool.
PP Councillor dismissed from meeting
The regular Council meeting in Torrox on Monday was the scene of bitter exchanges and ended up with the PP Councillor and Congress deputy María Baena being expelled from the chamber. Naturally, the rest of the PP Councillors also ejected their playthings from the perambulator and left the meeting.
María Estrella Tomé is new local PSOE Secretary
The PSOE in Torrox has elected María Estrella Tomé, former parliamentarian and Councillor for Urban Planning, as the new Secretary of the PSOE. She replaces the current Secretary, Mayor Francisco Muñoz, who has completed two terms and therefore is not eligible to stand again.
Political unrest in Torrox
The minority government in Torrox of Mayor Francisco Muñoz (PSOE) could once again be under threat from the IU with the support of the PIU and PA as talk of a censure motion drifts through the air.
Marketing and communication workshops
Torrox Council has organised a series of workshops for the business sector relating to new tools for marketing and communication. The workshops will take place on September 20th, 27th and 28th and those interested in participating can register at the Centro Guadalinfo in avenida del Faro.
