Theft of festive plants becoming a habit
The disappearance of the festive poinsettias in Vélez-Málaga is becoming a habit, with over 300 plants having been stolen from parks, gardens and other sites. Last year the Council replaced around 800 stolen plants, but this year there will be no replacements as they will more than likely just get nicked again.
Completion of roadworks in Torre del Mar
This week sees the completion of the works in calle Sagasta in the centre of Torre del Mar, a project costing €103,000 and involving the total redevelopment of the street and replacement of all underground infrastructure.
New ‘daily’ municipal shield
Vélez-Málaga Council has decided to dispense with the original municipal shield for ‘day to day’ business and use a new shield which enhances the figure of the king, justifying the action on the grounds that creating a new ‘daily’ shield will save money.
Drunk driver causes havoc
A 20 year old resident of Torre del Mar, initials B.R.M., caused havoc in the early hours of the morning as he demolished a set of traffic lights, nine metal posts and ten bollards before finally coming to a halt by crashing into shop windows. The driver was drunk and had no licence.
A wee problem in Vélez-Málaga
The Councillor for Cleaning Services in Vélez-Málaga, Antonio Martín (PP), has appealed to the public not to urinate in the streets, with a reminder that offenders face a fine of between €90 and €300.
Ultimatum over tram service
Vélez-Málaga Council has issued an ultimatum to the Ministry of Public Works and Housing of the Junta de Andalucia relating to the tram service in the municipality. Opening licences issued in 2012
The Councillor for Planning, Infrastructure and Operational Services, Concepción Labao, has announced that a total of 255 new small and medium enterprises have been implemented in the municipality this year, with a total of 139 opening licences being granted. This compares to 110 licences issued last year.
