After an investment of €33 million, the The Axarquia Park for Agricultural Technology in Vélez.Málaga, looks like being another addition to the list of ‘white elephant’ projects dreamt up during the economic boom years, the projects having no clear purpose other than seemingly to squander public funds.

Six arrested in connection with drug smuggling in Vélez-Málaga
Officers from the Drugs and Organised Crime Unit (UDYCO) in Vélez-Málaga have arrested six people and seized 500 kilos of hashish, three pleasure boats and two vehicles in the latest operation against drug smuggling in the province.
Removal of fins
Vélez-Málaga Council has started removing the ‘shark fin’ barriers running along the tram route. The tram stopped operating on June 4th and the fins are now considered a potential additional hazard to motorcycle riders.

Council rescinds Parks and Gardens contract
Vélez-Málaga Council has approved a dossier relating to the termination of the contract granted to Floresur for the conservation, maintenance and improvement of green areas within the municipality due to a number of breaches.
Public transport usage continues to decline
The suspension of the tram service and the re-introduction of a bus service with new routes and timetables has done little to stem the decline in passenger numbers using the public transport system in Vélez-Málaga.
Council restricting internet access for municipal employees
Vélez-Málaga Council is taking further steps to restrict unauthorised internet access and usage during working hours and, in a few cases, completely restrict access to individuals found to be spending five hours a day on social networks, looking up travel offers or other non work-related matters.

The Junta de Andalucia is apparently working overtime, if you can imagine that, to adapt the blueprint for the extension of the marina at Caleta de Vélez to incorporate the requirements of the environmental impact study.
Torre del Mar promenade not ready until at least July 14th
Despite a commitment to complete the renovation of the Torre del Mar promenade before the beginning of July, one of the busiest months of the year in the resort, the work will not now be completed until at least July 14th.
