Cafe Cantarero is open

A change of mind, ownership or circumstances, but the Cafe Cantarero in Nerja was open for business and people were enjoying a drink on the plaza terrace. Maybe the demise of the place was just a ‘Nerja Whisper’. Good news as it is the only cafe on the square.

Hot to trot

Two people were taken to Edinburgh Infirmary after taking part in the ‘world’s hottest chilli’ competition at the Kismot Indian restaurant. Many other contestants became ill during the event. World’s Hottest Chilli Competition

Tapas at the Round Bar

When it comes to the sheer range of tapas on offer you would be hard-pressed to beat the Round Bar – Redondo – in calle Gloria. On this occasion I opted for meat in a mushroom and pepper sauce with rice. Yum. A small beer and a tapa, €1.60.

Tapas at El Desvan

El Desvan on calle Pintada is a always good little stopping-off place for a tapa or two. Very nice decor in the bar and restaurant areas and they really have done a great job using the space to full advantage, the width of the place being on the small side. And there is a patio at the back.

Fat tax

Denmark has introduced what is believed to be the world’s first tax on fat. That’s a surcharge on foods that are high in saturated fat as opposed to any other thoughts that may have sprung to mind.

Tapas at Hostal La Ermita

Always a good tapa at Hostal la Ermita in plaza de la Ermita, Nerja, and at a very reasonable price. A small beer (and it is small) and a tapa, €1.20. They have a small range of tapas but good quality.

Multi-legged cuisine

Feeling adventurous? Then here are some rather different food ideas, to say the very least. Edible insect ideas

Meson Cache up for rent again

Looks like the reopening of Meson Cache in calle M’alaga was short-lived as there is now a ‘se traspasa’ sign on the window. Always looked to be doing very well but maybe it was just a summer venture.

Tapas at La Puntilla

Busy, vibrant and excellent describes La Puntilla in calle Bolivia, Nerja. As a first tapa I had ‘Morcilla’ (blood sausage/black pudding) served between two pieces of bread (sometimes called a sandwich I believe). Well cooked and very tasty.

Tapas at Los Cuñaos

Los Cuñaos, or the ‘through bar’ as it is often known locally, has an excellent selection of tapas, fish and meat. I had some small ribs in a mushroom sauce, with actual mushrooms in it. Very nice sauce. A beer and a tapa, €1.30 so very good value.
