A is for Alfonso, the name of thirteen monarchs of Spain, and there is a statue of Alfonso XII (Alfonso Francisco de Asís Fernando Pío Juan María de la Concepción Gregorio Pelayo) on the Balcón de Europa in Nerja.
Alfonso XII, 1857-1885, visited Nerja in 1885 following a devastating earthquake and is widely believed to have coined the name Balcón de Europa – Balcony of Europe.
