I set off to visit the Málaga Automobile Museum, catching the 09:40 direct bus to Málaga from Nerja and getting off at the port. Having had a quick look at a map I decided to walk to the museum as it didn’t look that far.
It actually took about thirty minutes or so to walk, the August heat, even at around 11:00, making it desirable to ‘take one’s time’.
I was expecting the museum to be a reasonable size, but I was quite surprised at just how big it actually is. The museum is located in the old tobacco factory, Fabrica de Tabacos, a building dating back to 1927, and the exhibition area is around 6,000 square metres.
It is very spacious, with a high ceiling, and the exhibition is extremely well laid out.
The Museo Automovilístico Málaga – Málaga Automobile Museum – houses the private collection of Portuguese car fanatic Joao Magalhaes and is one of the most important vintage car collections in the world.
In addition to the cars themselves, there are various other exhibits such as engines, steering wheels, wheel rims, dashboard items and mannequins dressed in the appropriate attire for the era.
