Tales of the Alhambra

Tales of the Alhambra by Washington Irving. In this book, Washington Irving (1783-1859), considered by many to be the “Father of American literature” and “the best English language writer of his time”, relates the fascinating popular myths relating to the Alhambra, which he collected during his visit to Spain in 1829.

The writer had the privilege of living in the Alhambra itself while writing the book and, after some research in the Granada University Library archives, he created a literary recreation written by a romantic traveller enraptured by the beauty of Granada, its landscape and its people. Includes 32 pages of full colour illustrations and photos of the Alhambra and its surroundings as well as period engravings.

There are often secondhand copies (English, Spanish, German) in the Nerja Book Centre in calle Granada, Nerja….Tales of the Alhambra
