Maro is a quiet, picturesque little village just outside Nerja on the old N-340 coast road heading east. Its greatest claim to fame are the magnificent Nerja Caves, located just outside the village.
Narrow streets and alleys, whitewashed houses and great views out to sea or across the bay to Nerja are all characteristics of this quaint little village. Most of the street name signs are made from ceramic tiles.
The focal point is the village square, Plaza de las Maravillas.
The square is dominated by the 17th century church, La Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de las Maravillas – Church of Our Lady of Sorrows.
