Storms causing problems throughout Andalucia

The rains of the weekend have been causing problems throughout Andalucia and especially in Jaén and Córdoba where there is concern about the high level of the rio Guadalquivir.

Protests against education cutbacks

This is a week of protests and action in the education sector in Andalucia, with strikes on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday called by the Students Union and protests all over the region called in conjunction with the Spanish Confederation of Parents’ Associations (APEC).

Unemployment forecast to increase in Andalucia in 2013

Unemployment in Andalucia has averaged 34.1% during 2012 but forecasts from the Unicaja Group suggest that this is likely to rise to 35.5% during 2013, well above the national level of 25%. Unicaja Group also contends that the continuing fall in GDP means that the current regional government has little chance of creating employment.

Andalucia formally requests bailout

Andalucia has become the sixth region in Spain to formally request a bailout from the Autonomous Liquidity Fund (FLA), the amount being as predicted, €4.906 billion. The regional government has also reached an agreement with the Central Government on debt levels, this to be between 15.1 and 15.3% of GDP. Food waste in Andalucia

Each person in Andalucia wastes 69 kilos of food per year, making a total of 578 tons per year to the value of €2.5 billion. That’s half the amount of the bailout being requested this evening.

Laptop programme in Andalucia drastically reduced

The Education Department of the Junta de Andalucia has announced an adjustment to the programme whereby laptops are provided to all pupils from Primary 5th to Secondary 2nd. It’s not going to happen.

Andalucia to request €5 billion bailout

After already receiving €1 billion advance against its participation in state revenue this year, the Junta de Andalucia is reportedly set to ask for a €4.906 billion bailout from the Liquidity Fund. This formal request is expected to occur on Tuesday after several weeks of the Junta de Andalucia saying it would ‘probably’ request financial aid.

Unemployment in Andalucia up by 2.83% in September

Registered unemployment in Andalucia rose by 29,028 people, 2.83%, in September to bring the official total of those out of work to 1,055,109, according to the Ministry of Employment and Social Security. Unemployment in Andalucia has risen by 11.88% in the past twelve months and has affected all provinces.
